I wrote the book

To give people the benefit of the doubt.

To be nice to strangers.

To be nice to people, even after they’ve crossed a line.

To give more chances than are deserved.

To smile, as if nothing is wrong.

To cheer them up, when it is you who needs it.

To be there, regardless of where there is.

To be the angel on their shoulder, when theirs has long ago given up.
